Consultation process
These proposals in the form of revised Character Appraisals and
Management Guidelines for Driffield Road and Medway Conservation
Areas were the subject of public consultation from 25th July 2016 to
11th September 2016. As part of this public consultation, views from
National and regional stakeholders including Historic England, the
Victorian Society, SPAB and the Georgian Group were sought.
Following on from this consultation and the mayors decision at Cabinet on 6th December 2016 to explore measures intended to increase the level of public benefit which can be associated with individual planning applications for mansard roof extensions, a further series of guidance notes together with proposals for delivery have been prepared. These proposed measures will be the subject of a further public consultation between the 7th April and the 14th May. As part of this consultation key stakeholders will be consulted including residents of the conservation areas, Historic England, the Victorian Society, the SPAB and the Georgian Group.
Letters were sent to all residents within each conservation area, and emails sent to those who had written to the Council as part of the previous consultations (23rd November 2015-18th January 2016 and 25th July 2016 – 11th September 2016) and to key stakeholders. The letters alerted them to the proposals and set out where more information could be found, how comments could be made and what meetings could be attended. Two public exhibitions and drop in sessions (one in the afternoon and one in the evening) were arranged at accessible venues. Information about the proposals and where to find additional information has also been advertised on the Councils website.
