Has an Equality Analysis been carried out and if so the result of this Assessment?: No - diversity data shows 62% of all homeless applicants are of Bangladeshi origin against 6.5% who are White British; 63% of the main homeless applicants are women. An EQIA carried out in February 2015 of benefit-capped households living in temporary accommodation, who will be most affected by this procedure showed that 57% of capped households are Asian/Bengali. The next largest group is 13% White British. 54% of all the families are headed by a lone woman parent; of these 69% (38% of total number) are headed by a lone Bengali Woman. Homelessness in general and the benefit cap in particular therefore disproportionately affect women and children, in particular those from the Bengali community. The steps the Council can take to mitigate these impacts are constrained by financial imperatives.
