The George Tavern - Historic Building Grant
The George is a handsome corner public house with well-detailed Italianate elevations of 1862, which has strong townscape interest. Much of the building’s external architectural decoration has been lost over the years and is difficult and expensive to replace. The George was included on the Heritage at Risk Register of English Heritage, noted as a building under threat
This proposal is for a grant payment towards the cost of restoration works to the exterior of the Statutorily Grade II Listed George Tavern public house in the Commercial Road Conservation Area in support of the Council’s Local Plan related Conservation Strategy.
