Reason for urgency:
The letting of this property needs to be brought to a conclusion. The building has had a couple of break-in attempts, in order for it to be squatted. If this was to happen the council would be responsible for all associated legal costs for the removal of the squatters and resecuring the building. The process of evicting squatters can take 3-6 months. As demonstrated on the eviction of squatters in Dame Colet House. The process of removing the unlawful occupancies on Ailsa Street, has taken a year to date in order to build a case. So it is in the Council’s interest to bring this empty building back into use, so as to allow the council to refocus its resources onto operational buildings.
