Issue details
Tiller Leisure Centre Energy Costs - Financial Support
The global energy crisis and price increases
have been compounded by the wider economic challenges faced by all
businesses, through increased supplier costs e.g., swimming pool
chemicals, inflation, interest rate rises, pay awards and the
general cost of living increases.
However, whilst this is a cross sector national issue, leisure
centres, and in particular those with swimming pools, due to their
high utility requirements, are being significantly impacted.
Tiller Leisure Centre has been subject to a significant increase in
energy costs as a result of an energy tariff change in October
2022. Without financial support to mitigate the increased energy
costs, Tiller Leisure Centre is not financially viable. As a result
the centre, or parts of the centre, such as the swimming pool,
would be subject to closure and or significantly increased leisure
centre costs for residents.
This report outlines the financial support required from the
Council to mitigate the ten-fold increase in energy costs at Tiller
Leisure Centre as a result of tariff changes that came into effect
in October 202
