We the undersigned petition the council to "We the undersigned object to the proposed removal of the School Streets scheme at Chisenhale Primary School. We ask that the council to consult prior to making any decisions."

Council response

Thank you for the petition which presented at the council meeting on Wednesday 18th January. Apologies for the delay in responding to you.

The Chisenhale Primary school street scheme and temporary play space outside the school were established through an Experimental Traffic Order (ETO) and introduced the following measures:

• School Street for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, at school pick up and drop off times, in Kenilworth Road, Chisenhale Road, Vivian Road, Zealand Road and Ellesmere Road.
• Play space on Chisenhale Road and Vivian Road.
• A one-way system working southbound on Vivian Road.

Following a public consultation on the play space in Feb 2022 and the ETO lapsing in September 2022, the Mayor decided that it will not be made permanent going forward.

However, the Mayor and the Council take the safety of children extremely seriously and are examining possible alternative measures to maintain safety without the need for road closures. These measures will be shared with residents and parents in due course.
