Removal of £20 annual Liveable Streets exemption permit charge and annual application process
Tower Hamlets is introducing several liveable street areas in the borough to reduce automobile traffic in residential areas. As part of this scheme residents in the affected areas may apply for "exemption permits" allowing their continued use of the roads closed to general traffic. To obtain a permit, residents must pay a non-refundable £20 fee with their applications. The magnitude of this fee and the additional administrative bourdon to residents of filling in an application annual to use, in most cases, a single road is excessive. The fee should be removed and permits issued automatically with on street parking permits for those that have on-street parking accounts inside the exemption areas.
