Council response
Thank you for your petition that you have requested a response to regarding the above matter. Please accept my apology for the delay in responding.
The section of the Thames Path that is immediately to the east of King Edward Memorial Park (KEMP) is, as the Council’s understands, under the management of Free Trade Wharf. We appreciate that the entrance gate at the south east corner of KEMP is a pinch point, and our Parks & Open Spaces section will investigate making improvements as part of the Masterplan works if the access gate is under the Council’s management.
The Thames Path is under multiple different management arrangements. Our Regeneration Team are managing the Thames Path Improvements Programme using funding secured via the Local Infrastructure Fund. As part of the Programme, the officers agreed to have an initial tri-partite conversation with Free Trade Wharf residents and the Port of London Authority to investigate how the Council could assist in improving this section of the Path. The Council is not in a position to fund that which landowners should be undertaking as part of their duty under legal agreements, but can provide funding for additionality on top of this, including quality of life improvements such as benches, wayfinding and security, amongst others.
I hope you find the above response useful.
Kind regards,
Ann Sutcliffe
