Additional documents: Minutes: At the request of the Chair, Mr Mohshin Ali, Acting Senior Licensing Officer, introduced the report which detailed the new application for a premises license for Verde, Unit 3, 45 Narrow Street, London E14 8DN. It was noted that objections had been received by two local residents.
At the request of the Chair, Mr Momed Ahmed, Applicant, very briefly explained that the premise had held a license previously, however the company holding the licence was dissolved, which thereby rendered the premise licence void. Mr Ahmed explained that they had been trading for the past three years and had not received any complaints directly relating to the premises. It was accepted that youth often congregated in the vicinity of the premises however were not directly associated with the premises. Mr Ahmed also confirmed that he nor his staff had any record of complaints made by the objectors.
The Chair reported that the objectors were not present at the meeting and Members would therefore consider and note the written objection included in the agenda on page 53.
In response to questions in was noted that the premises was a café/mini supermarket, that they would not sell alcohol before 10:00 hours and not after 22.00 hours and that the lease only allowed the premises to stay opened till 22.30 hours. Mr Ahmed explained that notices would be displayed within the premises asking customers to leave quietly and to respect the needs of local residents and as well as this, they would also proactively engage with customers to ensure the prevention of public nuisance.
In response to further questions Mr Islam Ali, Designated Premises Supervisor explained there was a seating area in the middle of the precinct which attracted youth to congregate outside, and did not feel confident in asking them to leave. It was noted that tables and chairs could be placed outside the premises however due to planning permission there was some issues surrounding this. Mr Islam stated that currently they did not have any furniture outside the premises however during the summer the area is used, usually between the hours of 10:00 hours and 15:00 hours and the area is closed by 18:00 hours.
The Chair advised that the Sub Committee would at 6.50pm adjourn to consider the evidence presented. Members reconvened at 7.00pm. The Chair reported that;
Members had considered the application and noted the objections made, however due to the nature of the application and the reduced hours offered by the applicant in agreement with Environmental Protection, Members granted the application.
