Decision:
The Council considered the report of the Chief Executive and Acting Corporate Director, Communities, Localities and Culture proposing the adoption of a Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy for 2016-19.
DECISION:
1. That the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy be adopted.

Minutes:
The Council considered the report of the Service Head, Safer Communities,
Communities, Localities and Culture submitting the proposed Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy 2016 for approval.
The recommendation set out in the report was put to the vote and was agreed. Accordingly it was:
RESOLVED:
1. That the Council agree the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy be adopted.
Guillotine Motion
At this point the meeting had sat for three hours and, with no motion to extend the meeting proposed, the guillotine came into effect. As set out in Procedure Rule 9.3, all remaining reports on the agenda were deemed formally moved and seconded and were put to the vote with no further discussion.

Minutes:
Councillor Shiria Khatun, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Community Safety, introduced the report on the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy. In particular she highlighted the commitment of the Council’s partners in tackling VAWG and how the new strategy had been developed following analysis of the effectiveness of the previous strategy and from consultation feedback.
The Mayor welcomed the report making clear that it was important to change expectations and attitudes around acceptable behaviour. He also reported that he would like to make a further study into the impact of domestic violence leading to homelessness. He thanked the Lead Member and Shazia Ghani (Head of Community Safety) and agreed the recommendations as set out.

1. To note the content of the VAWG Strategy (appendix 1 to the report).
2. To agree that the VAWG Strategy is recommended to Full Council for approval.
