To consider the report of the Director of Legal and Monitoring Officer following consultation on proposals to change a number of Ward Names in the Borough.

The Council considered the report of the General Purposes Committee.

Councillor Helal Uddin moved a proposal to agree name changes for Bethnal Green and St Peter’s Wards but not to change the name of the Canary Wharf Ward.

The recommendations were put to a vote and were agreed.

DECISION:

1.          Note the results of the consultation on proposed changes to Borough Ward Names

2.          To amend the names of the Borough Wards as follows:

•   change Bethnal Green Ward to Bethnal Green East Ward

•   change St. Peter’s Ward to Bethnal Green West Ward

3.          To not change the name of the Canary Wharf Ward.
