URGENT SAVE STEPNEY LIBRARY FROM DEMOLITION
The Residents of a disadvantaged housing estate in East London request to keep the Stepney Library for the benefit of the Community and oppose to its demolition and the construction of new housing in a council estate which is already overcrowded and affected with anti social behaviour. We have been neglected by having the library closed for more than 10 years and the community has been deprived of a space that was originally intended for the residents and beyond and could have positively made a real difference to our neglected council estate.
The construction of new housing on the location where the library stands will have an enormous detrimental impact in the community as residents will not feel safe and lose privacy in their homes, the distance between the new flats and the existing blocks don't meet best practice guidelines. It will also contribute to the increase of anti social behaviour in the estate, magnify a packed like sardines living environment in an already existing overcrowded estate, 500 dwellings with 2000 residents, it will vanish disabled parking space for residents and alter the original post war architectural design of our estate.
Please help us to keep the library and transform it into a Community Hub to enhance and enrich the lives of the residents of the estate and beyond. Community Centres are vital and the lifeblood of our society and we envisage that our library could positively transform the community by turning it into a multipurpose environment provided by the community for the community. A range of local activities and community services such as art studios, a cafe, creche, sports, social and educational activities are critically needed specially to engage with the children, youth, elderly and disadvantaged and isolated people in the estate.
Help us to save the Stepney Library and transform it into a Space for the Community. THANK YOU!
Please object to the demolition of the library and construction of new housing by sending a comment to development.control@towerhamlets.gov.uk Application Number: PA/18/02821 LPRN: 6031354 before the 9th November
