RESPONSE TO THE PETITION FROM THE COUNCIL
Thank you for submitting the above petition to the Council.
The Mayor has confirmed that the Council has no intention to close the Wapping Social Club. The intention is to refurbish the building and ensure that it is available for use by the whole community of Wapping.
The building will be closed for a temporary period from the end of September 2018 for 6 – 8 months, to enable the refurbishment works to be carried out. We are looking at alternative accommodation for the older residents to use during the period when Raines House is closed.
The Council recognises the importance of the club to the local community and in particular for the activities which are run for the benefit of older residents of the local area. These activities will be able to resume at Raines House once the building is re-opened.
Yours sincerely
Richard Chilcott
Acting Head of Corporate Property and Major Programmes
