Council response
Thank you for attending full Council on 29 September 2021 to
present your petition. I am very sorry to hear about the appalling
anti-social behaviour that is impacting on your quality of life and
that of your neighbourhood. I am providing a written response as
requested by Council.
To recap, I am advised that this case was allocated to an officer in the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour team (ASB) on 6 August 2021. I understand this was as a direct result of a number of other complaints about Anti-Social Behaviour caused by the resident of 1 Bishops Way. I understand an Action Plan was agreed in partnership with residents. You should be in receipt of regular updates on progress by your Anti-Social Behaviour officer.
As you referenced in the Council meeting, diary sheets have been provided to all residents with advice on how to report incidents to the Metropolitcan Police and the Council’s dedicated ASB team. Given the nature of the anti-social behaviour and offending, the local Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) are also aware of issues in your neighbourhood. Our ASB team, work in close partnership with the local police. I am advised that the SNT patrol your area regularly and have also carried out welfare visits to the property. The Council funded Police team are actively investigating the evidence available with the view to obtain a warrant for the address. The ASB team issued a Formal Warning on 31 August 2021 to the resident at 1 Bishops Way. We follow a process of escalation if the behaviour continues. This has been followed up with a Community Protection Notice Warning which was issued on 21 September 2021. Work on a Premises Closure Order is now progressing. This action will seek to close down the address, if the Court are in agreement and the legal evidential thresholds are met.
Our ASB Officer recently visited the area to speak to residents and spoke with the staff of the café below 1 Bishops Way to hear their account and to understand further the community impact. I am aware that the ASB officer is in contact with you and will meet with you and other affected residents shortly.
I hope this clarifies the action the Council has taken at this point in response to the anti-social behaviour. This work, in collaboration with the Police is ongoing as outlined above.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further clarification.
Yours sincerely
Denise Radley
