Objection to the one way system in Shadwell and carry out a New Consultation
Capital saved from the stopping of these works should be invested
in high interest-bearing securities. Using the revenue from this to
mitigate cuts to local services for vulnerable residents.
We would like the Council to Note:
The Consultation carried out in 2017/18 was insufficient to make a
decision, with only 149 responses.
The proposed works restrict access to low-income families to do the
bulk shopping required to access affordable fresh produce and also
threaten the businesses that not only serve the residents of
Shadwell but low-income families throughout Tower Hamlets.
The works will stop bulk deliveries of fresh produce to local
businesses, wholesale businesses that serve whole of Tower Hamlets
including Iceland Supermarket.
The proposed works concentrate traffic onto roads with a high
concentration of social housing.
The proposed works take no account of the high concentrations of
schools in the area and the safety risks this poses to
children.
