Petition details
Petition for ample Cycylehoops for Cressy Houses - E1 3J
We have compiled 5 relevant locations within walking distance of Cressy Houses for bike storage:
1) 20-58 Stepney Green, E1 3JJ: With ample space for maybe 2-3 Cyclehoop storage lockers here.
2) Corner of Cressy Place and Hannibal Road, E1 3JJ: Where two Cyclehoop Bikehangars are already installed at the intersection of Cressy Place, Hannibal Road. There is also quite a large secondary footpath and wildflowers growing in disused space between this footpath and Redmans Road. This space could be used for bike lockers and there’s still ample footpath on Redmans Road for pedestrians. There is a lovely wildflower garden outfront of the Stifford Centre being maintained by one of the Cressy Houses residents, so we wouldn’t be losing all the wildflower aesthetic and environmental benefits.
3) Corner of Redmans Road and Jamaica Street, E1 3JG: With ample pavement and green space for pedestrian safe bike storage.
4) 50-72 Redmans Road, E1 3AQ: It would be simple to add to the 4 bike stores out front of these flats - with ample room for safe install of several more Cycle parking brand lockers or several Cyclehoop Bikehangars without obstructing the wide pavement.
5) Parkland opposite 1-63 Tinsley Road, E1 3DA: There are existing concrete paths within the green space here with ample space for one or even two cyclehoops. These would allow safe neighbourhood watch and use by locker users living in 1-63 Tinsley Road, as well as Cressy Places.

For those signing the petition, here’s a bit of info about
the cycle hangar scheme we’re suggesting:
Cyclehoop Rentals is the largest cycle parking network in the UK.
Cyclehoop works with local councils to provide a fully managed
cycle parking rentals scheme. Their affordable, award-winning
Bikehangars, Bikelockers and Cycle Hubs provide effective
protection from weather, vandalism and theft for your bike.
We're suggesting the Bikehangars, which are the most weather and theft preventative options: https://www.cyclehoop.com/product/shelters-canopies/bikehangar/
While some councils refer to evidence of demand when choosing locations, there are other determining factors in play, such as the availability of suitable on-street space and the results of public consultations.
Cyclehoop is a supplier and provides Bikehangars and rentals customer service as and when required by our council clients. Our Tower Hamlets contact is cycling@towerhamlets.gov.uk.

Council response
Petition for ample Cyclehoops for Cressy Houses - E1 3J
Thank you for your petition regarding the above matter which you have requested a response to.
The council is strongly committed to increasing the supply of secure cycle storage to promote cycling and address demand in the borough, with a commitment to deliver 100 on-street bike hangars by Spring 2022. We have already worked hard to facilitate demand for Cressy Houses and the surrounding area, with the installation of a bike hangar at Cressy Place in 2018, followed by an additional hangar in 2019 in response to further demand. We also have individual cycle lockers nearby along Redman’s Road.
We have added the requests for further secure cycle storage from the Cressy Houses residents to the list for our cycle parking programme. Please be aware that this programme is currently unfunded due to TfL’s cycle parking borough fund being unavailable as a result of their current financial situation with the Covid pandemic. We note the locations provided and would also be interested in exploring any options within the private courtyard areas for Cressy Houses, subject to agreement from the landlord and residents and availability of funding’.
Yours sincerely,
Ann Sutcliffe
