Affordable Housing Grant - George Greens' Almshouses
The Grants Determination Sub Committee are asked to endorse Officers’ recommendations to award grant funding to the George Greens’ Almshouses purchase a 1 bedroom flat at 16 Spanby Road E3 from the Borough’s Right To Buy receipts. The property will be used to provide affordable housing.
The Council has significant RTB receipts. These must be used for the provision of new social housing in accordance with the terms of the agreements that the Council has entered into with the DCLG. To date £7.06m of these receipts has been allocated to assist developing RPs supplement their affordable housing build programmes. An additional £5m was approved by Cabinet for future bids in January 2018.

The Mayor and Lead Member for Strategic Development have been consulted and approved the process. Formal Expression of Interest has been posted on the Council’s website. Tower Hamlets Housing Forum members have been consulted prior to placing the advertisement.
The Council’s Finance and Legal department will be consulted before any decisions are made as well as the Mayor, Lead Member for Housing, DMT& CMT.
